Cutting edge paint machine firm nominated in Manufacturing and Design Category
Firms from the West of Ireland have a very strong track record in innovation and that has been borne out once again this year with the nomination of cutting-edge paint company Chameleon in the country’s leading innovation awards.
Chameleon has been nominated along with two other firms in the manufacturing and design category of this year’s Irish Times Innovation Awards.
For the Awards, three finalists are nominated in five different categories with the category victors winning a €10,000 communications package. They also go forward to compete for the overall Innovation of the Year Award and a top prize of a €150,000 communications package.
Chameleon, which is based in Tuam, Co. Galway, has been nominated for developing, manufacturing and exporting cutting edge paint-mixing machines for the paint and coatings industry worldwide. Its machines are sold to large paint companies who in turn deploy the machines in paint shops to allow customers to choose the exact paint colour they want.
Managing Director Padraic Timon Chameleon’s focus for the past 10 years has been on innovation and customer support.
"We started to develop the new machine in 2016. We are the first in the industry to incorporate a screen to communicate with the operator…. When the machine starts up it runs a best practice tutorial for 15 seconds. When an employee presses the emergency button and calls for support the machine plays a video to assist them to deal with the issue. The machine can communicate this to customers remotely as well as providing real time information to predict maintenance and the ability for remote repair. This reduces the number of call outs for paint companies which saves everyone time, money and carbon emissions” he said.
This year marks the tenth year of the Awards which were established to showcase and reward excellence in innovation across a range of products and services. Sponsors include Science Foundation Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, Skillnet Ireland, KPMG and UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School.
