Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company Inc will increase production capacity at the Niigata Plant (Niigata City, Japan) for glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), which is used as a raw material for automotive top coatings and other products. An acryl-melamine curing system had been the primary material conventionally used for automotive top coats. Since the 1990s, however, automakers have increasingly adopted acid-epoxy curing systems for the top coats, which use GMA as a raw material due to its resistance to acid rain and scratch.
